Guidelines for the Championship Meet (Very Serious)
Dear Parents,
Please read:
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THIS INFORMATION IS PROVIDED TO ALL PARENTS PRIOR TO THE MEET!! I do not want to put you nor my staff into any awkward situations during this meet.
1.Due to capacity and safety reasons, I will allow one spectator per swimmer for entry at the meet. Siblings are allowed with parents if they are in another session that day. Otherwise, siblings are to stay at home. We could well have over 100 swimmers at a couple of these sessions, I want to make sure that we are staying within capacity and I do not want to go much over 250 people. I will have someone at the door as people come in and people will be turned away if this guideline is not followed (and many people are driving from a long way away). If there is any argument with that, I will have the lifeguard ask for their team and let that team’s coach deal with that situation. It is the coach’s requirement to communicate this, it will also be each individual coach’s requirement to enforce this.
2.Entry for all sessions of the meet will be at through our outdoor pool entrance. I will mark this on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. All exiting of the facility will be done through the main building. I will not have this door opened nor manned for all of the sessions. The times for this will be as follows:
a.Friday Evening-5PM-6:30PM. People can enter from the main building entrance after that time.
b.Saturday Session 1: 12PM-1:15. People can enter from the main building entrance after that time.
c.Saturday-Session 2: 2:30PM-3:30PM. People can enter from the main building entrance after that time.
3.During the Saturday sessions, because we will be swimming 25s, parents who are not volunteers may not sit nor stand at the non-starting end of the pool. Non-volunteer parents should never be at the starting end of the pool. I will be enforcing this, any argument could lead to me asking people to leave the meet. Parents at no time should be talking to timers.
4.I will have 2 sets of bleachers at the meet, but not much else for seating. Spectators are welcome to bring chairs.
5.All food is banned from the pool deck during the meet unless medically necessary (and this should be cleared with a coach prior). I do consider snacks medically necessary for all coaches during the afternoon. This will be enforced and includes swimmers and spectators. The swimmers will only be around for a couple of hours, they should eat well before they come, they should be fine. I have discovered that many of the kids who bring snacks are only eating because they have snacks. Full bellies at swim meets worry me as they start to race (and we all know why). Drinks are welcome (water bottles etc) as long as the drink is not in a glass nor ceramic container.
6.The zero entry and multi-purpose pools are closed during the meet. Swimmers may not wade nor sit on the side with their feet in the water.
This has been a great season and as always, this looks to be a good meet. Please communicate all of my guidelines to your parents, I will be enforcing. I have been on the warpath around here lately and parent accountability has been at the top of my list. I will have heat sheets to everybody on Thursday evening (the 23rd). I have discovered that many of the kids who bring snacks are only eating because they have snacks. Full bellies at swim meets worry me as they start to race (and we all know why). Drinks are welcome (water bottles etc) as long as the drink is not in a glass nor ceramic container.
