Home Meet Info for this week
Hello Parents!
This week, both our Monday(12th) and Thursday(15th) meets will be at our home pool. We swim in the same YMCA pool for meets that we use for practice. The FMAC pool is not available for us to use in the summer because of extensive set up and break down procedures. Below you’ll find helpful information for our home meet routine, and some reminders and tips for volunteering.
🦈 Home meets are held in our YMCA pool, the same pool we use for practice.
🦈 Bring chairs to sit on, space is extremely limited. Do not cross the yellow caution tape-we use it to make a walkway for the swimmers and to block off the clerk of course area where we line the swimmers up. If not volunteering, please remain in the seating areas.
🦈 Our swimmers will sit outside in the breezeway where they warm-up for practices. They will sit with their age groups for the entire meet. If they are not present when we are lining them up for their event, we will have no choice but to scratch them from the heat sheet, or sub them if it’s a relay. Unfortunately, this must be done because of how fast the meet moves and our lack of time/people to go looking for swimmers who aren’t with their age groups.
🦈Volunteers and swimmers will check in with “Swimmer & Parent Volunteer Check-In Person”. This person will have a clipboard and be stationed near the door when you enter the pool.
🦈 Swimmers need to be at our pool at 5:10pm. Our warmups are from 5:15-5:30pm. The only unlocked door is the main entrance to the YMCA where we enter for practice. The meet begins at 6pm.
🦈Our concession volunteers will set up a table with the provided snacks, beverages and pizza, located in the hallway before you enter the pool. Per YMCA restrictions, no children under the age of 18 are allowed behind the concession stand. Our concession stand accepts cash or Venmo.
🦈 We have many more volunteer jobs to fill in order to run a meet at home. We need all the help we can get! Many of you have already signed up and we are so grateful! If you haven’t already, please find a volunteer position to sign up for. To view information about a particular job, tap the “i” button next to the job. Don’t be nervous, we can train you and most of the jobs are quite easy once you get the hang of it. Harry will hold a volunteer meeting at 5:45pm.
🦈 We need a special volunteer to be the announcer/starter. This person will be in charge of using the loudspeaker to announce the event/heat, asking the timers if they’re ready, telling the swimmers to step up to the blocks and take their marks, then push the button that signals the “BEEP” (horn) for the swimmers to start. To do this job, you’ll need a loud and clear speaking voice, and be confident to run the meet. We can teach you how to use the loudspeaker if you feel you have these qualifications.
🦈 Only the lap pool is open for the entirety of the meet. The kiddie pools and whirlpool are CLOSED.
🦈 Please email Harry and I (Jessica) asap if your swimmer will be absent at any of the meets this week (or in the future) so we can take them off the roster and relays.
Feel free to email me with any questions!
Go Tiger Sharks!🦈
Jessica
