Volunteer Requirements

Good Evening Tiger Sharks Families --

I hope this finds everyone well and staying warm! Just wanted to reach out with a couple quick updates.

1. Time Trial entries are being corrected as we speak. Newbie error there -- my apologies! Everything will be corrected and up-to-date this evening.

2. We are tracking the possibility of inclement weather this weekend that may impact Saturday's meet. Ms. Shayna and I are watching the weather forecasts closely and will make a decision regarding the meet by Friday evening. An email AND a SwimTopia alert will be sent out on Friday with our decision. The safety of everyone on our team is first and foremost, and we want to ensure we can confidently make the best decision we possibly can!

3. I am opening up volunteer positions early -- these will go live at 6 pm TONIGHT, Jan. 20th. Please see below for a very important message from Ms. Shayna regarding our updated policy for all volunteers:

"As we prepare for Saturday’s swim meet, we are needing all persons who plan to volunteer this Winter Swim Team session to complete the following process for our Volunteer Matters. If you have volunteered in the past, please note this is a new process for all YMCAUP volunteers.

Volunteer Matters ensures proper screening, record keeping, and training for our volunteers in order to put safety first (once approved your Volunteer status is good for one year, for those returning in the summer 2026 it will carry over). Please see below for additional information.

Volunteer Matter’s Overview of Task (completed by each volunteer):

-Indemnity Waiver – Sign/Acknowledge

-Volunteer Code of Conduct – Sign/Acknowledge

-Background Check

-Child Abuse Prevention Training for Volunteers – 15 minutes

Follow the link: Sharks Swim Team – Volunteer Registration

Once you have completed Volunteer Matters, you can register for your volunteer role in SwimTopia. Please note that you can pre-register with Volunteer Matters before the upcoming meets, that way you will receive your approval and will be eligible to sign up for volunteer roles.

We appreciate you completing the needed requirements to ensure safety of programming.

Please reach out to [email protected] if you have any questions."

Again, the safety of our swimmers and our team is most important always. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and attention to this matter. We are excitedly looking forward to (hopefully!!) hosting a great first swim meet this weekend! Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions/concerns, or Ms. Shayna directly regarding any Volunteer Matters related issues. Thank you!

Respectfully,

Coach Taryn
